Where is Malta located?
Ask someone the question “Where is Malta?” and there is a good chance that he or she will answer that they have never heard of Malta. To be honest, most non-Europeans generally haven’t heard of the Maltese Islands. With the introduction of cheap flights to Malta, this has gradually changed over the past few years.
So where is Malta located?
If you’re looking at a world map, you’d be forgiven for missing Malta. In some maps it doesn’t even show up! However, if you look at the map of Europe, you will see Malta right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. “Place” is the key word here, as Malta is literally a place on almost every map.
This shows the small area of the island. The Maltese archipelago consists mainly of three islands, namely Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta, the largest, is only 316 sq km and to cross the island from one side to the other by car will take you just over an hour (if you don’t take traffic into account).
So what’s so fascinating about this island, twice the size of Washington, D.C.?
The island’s rich and long history and fantastic beaches attract thousands of visitors every year. Not to mention numerous other attractions and sites. Combine this with friendly and welcoming local people and you have a winner.
