The plaice is a peaceful, sociable fish that comes in a wide range of colors; even the females are brightly colored. The preferred water temperature is probably 24 to 26 degrees Celsius and the aquarium should be well lit to encourage algae growth. Plates can be reliable kennels.
Molly is a very popular livebearer that can be spotted in green and gold or all black, depending on the species you choose. All of these fish that live just below the surface have a perfectly straight back, which allows their upturned mouths, which are perfect for scooping up floating food, usually insects in nature, to come straight to the surface.
Foods that float for a while are ideal for these fish. The zebra zebra, native to India, is a fish that enjoys water temperatures between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius. A very active and lively fish, it will reach a size of about 5 cm or 2 inches and is best kept in shallows. Females are much fuller than males.
For beginners the zebra zebra can be considered an ideal fish to start breeding, the parents should be removed as soon as possible after spawning as they like to eat their own eggs. Alternatively, use dense clumps of plants where the eggs can nestle out of their reach.
How about glass catfish? This almost transparent fish, you can see its bones, has one ray for a dorsal fin. Native to Southeast Asia, it grows easily to about 10 cm or 4 inches in length. It enjoys a temperature range of 21 to 26 degrees Celsius. Since this is an active, free-swimming, gregarious fish, don’t keep just one; otherwise it may disappear. Unlike most other catfish, it spends a lot of time in the upper water levels.
