Premier League Match Time: Arsenal vs Newcastle
Premier League fixture time is here again, with Arsenal hosting Newcastle United on Sunday in matchweek eleven.
Arsenal won 3-0 away to Newcastle in the Carling Cup last week and they will be looking forward to more of the same as the Geordies visit the Emirates. For the Gunners, Theo Walcott scored in the Carling Cup tie against the Geordies and could once again be the danger man for Chris Hughton’s side on Sunday.
In Gameweek 10, the Gunners were lucky to take all three points against West Ham as the Hammers hung on for the better part of 88 minutes until Song headed Gael Clichy past Green into the West Ham net. Arsenal created many chances in the match but to no avail. Arshavin made some early shots down the left flank. The Russian later curled in a cross only to see Song head over the bar.
Another great scoring chance failed when a free-kick was awarded after Bois Morte pushed Denilson, but Nasri’s shot, despite beating Green, hit the crossbar. Wenger’s men owed their clean sheet on the day to Gael Clichy’s superb performance in the back line.
A midweek loss to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk should have brought Arsenal back down to earth and they will need a disciplined effort to ensure they pick up three points from the match with the Magpies.
Newcastle bounced back from their latest loss to Arsenal with a 5-1 win over Sunderland in matchweek ten. The win came on the back of captain Nolan’s hat-trick. Ameobi scored the other two goals for Jordi, including a penalty. Before the game, Sunderland had conceded just seven goals this season in the Premier League, the fewest apart from Chelsea, but the Magpies’ rampage left the Black Cats’ defense in tatters.
Newcastle went on the attack from the kick-off and Nolan opened his account from Barton’s corner, but only after Carroll’s effort was saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Mignolet.
Although the Gunners are the bookies’ favorites to win at home on Sunday, the game could swing one way or the other depending on which side’s strikers spill first blood.
For Newcastle, Sol Campbell could return against his former side after being sidelined for a month with knee and hip injuries; Campbell could be given a late test by Hughton.
As well as Campbell, Newcastle have injury concerns in Harper, Ben Arfa, Best and Gosling. Arsenal’s list of injured players is much longer and includes Diaby, Ramsey, Vermaelen, Frimpong, Van Persie, Gibbs and Almunia.
Arsenal’s starting eleven against West Ham consisted of Fabianski, Sagna, Skilacci, Koscielny, Clichy, Song, Denilson, Nasri, Fabregas, Arshavin, Shamakh Bendtner, Walcott and Eboue included as substitutes.
Krul, Jose Enrique, Colocini, Williamson, Simpson, Tiote, Barton, Nolan, Gutierrez, Ameobi, Carroll were named in Newcastle’s starting eleven for the game against Sunderland.
Ranger came in as a backup.
