NASA astronaut reveals why humans will never live permanently on the moon despite plans to build a lunar city
NASA recently gave a company $57.2 million to develop infrastructure for the moon, but one astronaut doesn’t think we’ll all be living there anytime soon.
nose Astronaut Stan Love spoke exclusively to The US Sun about plans for humans to live on the moon and why he doesn’t think it’s a great idea to have people there permanently.
Love believes that some humans will live the moon to work, but will not become a permanent home.
He told The US Sun: “I think they will live on the moon and have a base there.
“But I can’t imagine they will move their families there. My example is Antarctica.
“We’ve had people in Antarctica continuously since 1957 and that’s about 60 years ago and no one has moved their family there.

“How are the schools? Yes, no, we don’t go there.”
Love explained that he believes any future lunar base will be treated more like a research station than a city.
He said: “It will be like an Antarctic research station. Antarctica is a very good analogy for the Moon, it has been used for science.
“All nations share it, although some nations claim it, the claims of others are not recognized.
“Military use is not allowed and resource extraction is not allowed right now.”
He laughed as he added, “The Moon has these precious resources, so we might want to amend this treaty and make sure we can use them.”
Moon ice will become a hot commodity when research stations are finally on the surface.
Any other unknown natural resources will also be greatly desired as they could help with extended stays on the Moon and even help us launch rockets from there.
While Love doesn’t believe humans will live on the moon, Nasa has given a 3D printing company Icon $57.2 million to develop a plan that could help build infrastructure on the lunar surface.
Types of infrastructure would include landing strips, habitats and roads on the lunar surface.
Developments would not only be built for NASA, but also for commercial companies.
