How do I find the unknown cause of skin allergies?
Sometimes you get rashes out of nowhere and you will wonder what specific thing is causing such a skin allergy. Each of us has high skin sensitivities to certain things, such as animal hair from cats and dogs in your neighborhood.
All you can do is avoid close contact with these pets, or you can wear gloves and long-sleeved clothes if you can’t resist holding or patting them. In other words, you will be able to prevent the appearance of unpleasant rashes on your skin if you are able to recognize the root cause of this particular skin condition (aka allergen).
Before that, you need to know about your IgE antibody, which is involved in allergic reactions. This IgE antibody triggers the release of histamine from surrounding tissues or white blood cells (especially mast cells and basophils). Histamine is a chemical that causes rashes and hives if it is released into the skin area.
Generally, skin allergies occur when individuals are found to have high levels of IgE antibodies in the blood.
Allergen detection can be done by a radioallergosorbent test or RAST, which uses blood serum. Blood serum should be screened with several allergens and then followed by an expanded panel of additional allergens. Therefore, the RAST test measures elevated levels of IgE antibodies, where it is an alternative to skin tests, especially in atopic dermatitis (eczema).
Generally, the cost of this particular skin test is based on the number of allergens used. For your information, the more allergens that are used during the test, it will provide a better chance of identifying the correct possible allergens that cause allergic reactions on the skin.
These measurements are used in people with asthma, hay fever and atopic dermatitis (eczema) and are an accurate and convenient alternative to skin tests. Although they are more expensive, they do not cause hypersensitivity reactions.
