Easy steps to teach your dog socialization skills – puppies and older dogs
If you will be rescuing a dog from one of the animal rescues, sometimes the older dog may need some socialization skills. It doesn’t matter if the dog is small or big, both have differences in socialization.
One of the benefits of having a small dog is that they move from place to place more easily by carrying them instead of walking them. You need to make sure that the small dog has appropriate social experience in different positions other than your arms. Your little dog may learn to be comfortable with things when they are in your arms, but not when they are on the ground. Dogs are very particular learners. Being overprotective and wearing them all the time can lead to Small Dog Syndrome. (little bark, angry dog). Help your little dog gain confidence for life by giving him a chance to face new experiences and challenges.
Few things are more rewarding than giving an elderly shelter dog a loving home. Keep in mind, as with puppies, you may experience a few weeks of honeymoon. But as your dog becomes more comfortable in his new home, his true personality will shine through. Be especially careful to take things slowly so as not to push your dog too quickly in terms of exposure to potentially new and frightening experiences.

Invite one of two friends at a time to meet your new dog. Ask them to wear hats, but don’t wear them. Ask everyone to sit down. Have a friend (without a hat) feed the dog dinner. When the dog seems comfortable, have your friend place the hat on the floor or in his lap and feed the dog. Then slowly have your friend put the hat on while still feeding the dog.
If you do this a few more times, your dog will start looking for men in hats because they are such a generous bunch.
