Australian Terrier dog breed information
The Australian terrier is one of the smallest members of the Terrier family. Here you will find a short-legged, well-built little dog. We see a long head with V-shaped ears, a wonderful sharp expression. Their nose is black and has a distinctive V-shaped section at the top. Their teeth should meet in a scissor bite. They are just a shade longer than they are tall at about nine to ten inches tall. We see a deep chest that is located well below their body. They have small cat-like feet, with arched toes ending in black claws. They have a top knot that only covers the top of the skull. For their coloring, you see a solid complexion, shades of blue, and that includes dark blue, with many other shades of blue. They can be silver-blue, here we see the dark color at the tip of the hair, but each hair alternates throughout. Solid red is found in this breed and blue and tan. Their coat is double, which is about two to three inches long.
History: The Australian Terrier dog was developed in Australia and is believed to be descended from the Norwich, Yorkshire, Skye, Cairn and Dandy Dinmont terrier breeds. Their use was to fight rodents and snakes. They have been used as herding dogs, agility, performing tricks and guard dogs. Here we meet the first recognized dog native to Australia.
Temperament: The Australian Terrier wants to please and this allows him to be one of the best to train in the terrier family. This breed is energetic, curious and lovable, all with boundless energy. He has sharp hearing and vision. Unlike some terriers, this dog is not sharp, but they do like to bark and training is required to curb their urge to bark. As with all dogs, this dog needs to know that you are the boss, good training and consistent reinforcement will help the dog with this, and this is a great confidence booster. This dog is friendly with other dogs and pets.

Grooming: The Australian Terrier will need brushing every other day. Its coat is long but easy to maintain. When you brush the fur, you help to release the oils that give the dog a beautiful shine. Bathing should be limited as this removes the protective oils. As part of the terrier family, this dog will need a pluck every few months. This breed sheds little.
Living conditions: The Australian Terrier dog is suitable for living in an apartment, but will also need to be taken out for a walk. Keep them on a lead when they are outside as they can chase other small animals and will love leaving you in their wake.
