A critical analysis of the fidelity of Wordsworth’s poem
A critical analysis of the fidelity of Wordsworth’s poem
The tropes used in the poem Fidelity are: “Sometimes a leaping fish sends a lonely cry across the reef.” Wordsworth embodies the language of poetry. Again he says: “The rocks represent the crowing of the raven in the symphony, asceticism is also an example of personification. Sunbeams and a sonic boom is an example of synesthesia, where color and sound are used as similes.
Next, I would like to comment on the legend of the poem. The fable is about a shepherd who meets a dog. At first he thinks he’s a wolf. Then later in the poem the poet leads to the shepherd who discovers the skeletal remains of a man lying at the bottom of the precipice. The poet wants us to imagine that the dead man was a traveler who traveled this place and the dog was his faithful companion.
There is a haunting sense of mystery inherent in the poem. The poet uses the language of suspense and legend to create a story about a traveler who fell into the abyss. Is the symbol of the shepherd the alter ego of the poet? The shepherd is an archetype of a person who leads a flock. The shepherd is a famous icon of pastoral poetry. Wordsworth’s poetry conveys a pastoral character. Nature manifests itself as awe-inspiring and awe-inspiring philosophy. The loyalty of the dog elevates our sense of pity to the sublime. Wordsworth developed a dynamic catharsis.
Next, I would like to reflect on the poet’s way of thinking. Is the poem real or fictional? Death is a symbolic theme that manifests itself in the skeletal remains of man. Why does the poet wish to depict or reveal or direct the Shepherd to the subject of death? In Greek myth, the shepherd symbolizes a cornucopia of fertility and abundant vegetation. Wordsworth stuns the reader by making the Shepherd discover death. The shepherd’s staff, which has the magical realism of touching life, here succumbs to death. Is Wordsworth conveying that there is a Shepherd archetype in all of us? From fertility and lush vegetation and wine, the shepherd is led to the discovery of death. The loyalty of the dog can be symbolically transformed into an identification that we must be true to our visions, ideals and aspirations.
Next, I would like to comment on the nature imagery used in the poem. The poet identifies the dog among the scattered rocks that stir in fern. Nature flows in poetic language. He then depicts the dog’s resistance to the whistle or call. The dog is a symbol of loyalty to its dead master. Nature is depicted in the language of lamentation. Wordsworth speaks of the gulf, the precipice before, and the lake below. Nature is as bright as a theater screen. The poet also mentions remoteness. The only sound of joy is that of the leaping fish in the tarna. The other sounds are the cawing of the raven, which the poet personifies as an austere symphony. The poet sees the rainbow and the cloud, and the mist gathers like a shroud. The shepherd makes his way through rocks and stones to discover the tragic fate. The shepherd discovers that a man has fallen into the abyss. Ultimately, the poet infers the loyalty of the dog that watches over its master.
