10 deer hunting safety tips to ensure a fun and safe hunt
Deer hunting season is upon us this fall in many states and I’m so excited I can’t wait to put on my ridiculous looking bright orange hunting gear and accessories so I can get outdoors.
My wife teases me about how silly I look in my bright orange hunting gear, but if I were to leave the house without it, she’d be terrified for my safety and think I’d lost my mind for not wearing the right gear for deer hunting safety.
As I checked my gear in anticipation of the opening of deer hunting season just around the corner, it got me thinking about how important it is to be safe out there.
Deer hunting is a fun outdoor sport, but like any other sport, you must follow certain precautions to avoid injury or even death. And not just your safety, but that of your fellow hunters.
After all, deer hunting involves a lot of eager men, women, and children armed with high-powered rifles, and unfortunately, not everyone is as safety conscious as they should be.
7 Deer Hunting Safety Tips
- Wear bright orange hunting clothing so you can easily see it and not be confused with a deer. Not only is it safe, it’s required by law.
- Do not pull the trigger unless you are certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that your target is a deer. It sounds like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised that most hunting accidents are from hunters accidentally shooting other hunters.
- Let your family and/or friends know when you are going hunting, where and what time you expect to return home.
- Check the weather forecast.
- If possible, avoid hunting alone.
- Use your own tree stand and make sure it is installed or built safely before climbing it.
- Take care of your hunting equipment before and after hunting.

Hunting is a fantastic and fun outdoor activity. Not only is it a great form of exercise, but it allows you to spend time outdoors with your friends and family and even your dog.
